Theme: Basking in the glory of your victory and inheritance this is your time Text: 1 Kings 19 The man of God was in the wilderness when he should have been basking. Remember the darkest time is just before dawn. When you are on the brink of breakthrough all hell breaks through. Satan sees your future and starts to kick up. Why was it difficult for Elijah to see the provision? When you take your eye off of Jesus and start seeing your problem you will not see your blessing which is right there waiting for you. Satan wants to block us from getting all that God has for us, he has come to steal kill and destroy but Jesus has come to give you life in abundance 1. Verse 5b: and fell asleep. Why was it difficult for Elijah to see the provision? He was asleep. Do not sleep on the job. When God is saying rise and eat Satan is saying sit down and sleep. Connect with the vision God has provided the provision already. We set our own menu but God has already provided the banquet according to God’s plan for our lives. 2. Verse 4a: while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. Elijah was discouraged. He had had enough “I have had enough, Lord,” he said, he wanted to lay it down and die but when we are full of courage we know we can and have to keep going. Be encouraged God will give you the strength to go on to reap your reward. God will not forget your works of righteousness. They will rise up to Him like a sweet fragrance. 3. Verse 5a: Then he lay down under the bush. He was in a low place under a broom tree. He was out of place - if you are out of place get back in place. That is no place to be, a rough place with rocks, a dangerous place with snakes. 4. Verse 4b: “Take my life;" Elijah was suicidal. The man that was praying for fire on the mountain top went on to praying for his own death in the valley. We rebuke bad news we will only receive good news. There is nothing that can happen that God and you cannot fix. God has provided you with good news. Bad news wears you down look at Job’s life. 5. Verse 4c: "I am no better than my ancestors.” He looked back at the past and applied it to his life. Who God is to you is more important than what your father was. Your past is your past there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Do not connect yourself to your ancestral sins. 6. Verse 14b: "I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” Elijah was complain and grumbling. Don’t get a victim mentality don’t get into a pity party. The devil will put blinders on you and stop you seeing the plans God has for you. But when he stopped looking at himself he saw the provision 7. Verse 2: So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.” He was seeing death in his future. He became fearful of Jezebel’s threats. Her threats were replaying in his head. But God has other plans and He provided for him. 8. Verse 9: There he went into a cave and spent the night. And the word of the Lord came to him: “What are you doing here, Elijah?” Elijah was in a place of darkness and hopelessness, in a cave. In was pitch black that is why he could not see the provision. What was he doing there? Apostolically I call you out of the cave. 9. Verse 3b: When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there. He was alone he left his servant in Beersheba. He felt isolated and alone, with no one to help him. Verse 7: The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” The angel came and the second time the angel of the Lord came and touched him again. Get a second touch that causes you to get up and see the provision to strengthen you for the journey. 10. Verse 15 - 16: The Lord said to him, “Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. Elijah should never have been there because God never changed His mind. The anointing was still in him that is why God told him to get up and go and anoint kings and prophets. God is serious about the call on your life. Get up and keep moving. You are still under the call and the anointing of God. So get up and go get the work done. Verse 8: So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. He went to mount Horeb and then God took him up by a chariot without death. Elijah prayed for death but God did not comply with His requests and he never died in the natural. 2 Kings 2: 11b Suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Before he left earth he saw the demise of his enemy. God is faithful don’t be discouraged what you asked for God has already provided. God is empowering you with supernatural strength for the journey Start seeing it. |
