Speaker:Apostle Dr Lucille Baird
Subject: Nationhood a worthy and valuable citizen
Text: Genesis 46-47
Psalm 67
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us, and make his face shine on us—
2 so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.
3 May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you.
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you rule the peoples with equity and guide the nations of the earth.
5 May the peoples praise you, God, may all the peoples praise you.
6 The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us.
7 May God bless us still, so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.
What is expected of you as a citizen of the nation of Barbados and a citizen of the Kingdom of God
We have boundaries but there are no boundaries for the Kingdom of God. God only has Territory
We must have Sovereignty within our boundaries but at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow to the sovereignty of Jesus Christ.
The government is needed in a Nation. But the government shall be upon His shoulder And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God... The government changes but the Nation remains. Laws remain even though the government changes and God’s laws are everlasting. One day God will establish a new heaven and a new beginning , and the Citizenship of His Kingdom shall live forever.
Recognition: A country must be recognized by organizations but if man does not recognize God He still exists.
Why should people obey the laws? Because of moral obligation to the nation. Jesus has promised to be our all in all. He keeps his promises, not like politicians, Jesus is a promise keeper.
Genesis 46:1-7
46 So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.
2 And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!”
“Here I am,” he replied.
3 “I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”
5 Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. 6 So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt, taking with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan. 7 Jacob brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.
Genesis 46:31-34
31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, “I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him,
‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me.
32 The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’ 33 When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’ 34 you should answer, ‘Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.”
What is you occupation? What can you contribute?
When the Israelites arrived they had an occupation they had to give back.
What are you bringing? Be a valuable citizen.
Genesis 47:1-4
1 Joseph went and told Pharaoh, “My father and brothers, with their flocks and herds and everything they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen.” 2 He chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.
3 Pharaoh asked the brothers, “What is your occupation?”
“Your servants are shepherds,” they replied to Pharaoh, “just as our fathers were.” 4 They also said to him, “We have come to live here for a while, because the famine is severe in Canaan and your servants’ flocks have no pasture. So now, please let your servants settle in Goshen.”
They had a skill, God will ask you what is your skill? If you do not use that skill to the House of the Lord you will answer to God.
Don’t hold back your skill be a valuable Citizenship of the Kingdom of God.
Pharaoh gave them the best land Goshen, God will bless you when you give him you skills
Genesis 47: 7-10
7 Then Joseph brought his father Jacob in and presented him before Pharaoh. After Jacob blessed Pharaoh, 8 Pharaoh asked him, “How old are you?”
9 And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty. My years have been few and difficult, and they do not equal the years of the pilgrimage of my fathers.” 10 Then Jacob blessed Pharaoh and went out from his presence.
Jacob first blessed Pharaoh first and then he Blessed him again. Learn to be a blessing, be blessed to be a blessing.
