December 6th 2020 Sermon notes

Rev Gail Price Speaker: Rev Gail Price
Theme: The Hope foretold and fulfilled
Text: Isaiah 9:2-7

Jesus birth was foretold in the Old Testament. He was being made know and the ultimate plan was to redeem mankind to Him. Today we will look at the Old Testament readings that foretold Jesus’ birth. God knew we would need a savior and He put things in place

Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Over 300 Prophecies point to the exact location and timing of the birth, that could only be God. Jesus is the Word, the Light, the Way, Truth and the Life.
The greatest gift on earth came as a tiny baby but with a great purpose.

Daniel 9:25-26
25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing

Luke 1:26 –28; 31-33
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

Isaiah 7:14
14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you[c] a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.

Numbers 24:17
17 “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near.
A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel.

Micah 5:2 – Michah Prophacied that Jesus would come out of Bethlehem
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”

Confirmed in Luke 2:4-7
4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

Isaiah 9:2-7
2 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
3 You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as warriors rejoice when dividing the plunder.
4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.
5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

We are living in a season of darkness but light will come. But God is still the Hope for the season. Even in the region there is deep darkness but God still brings Hope. Share the dynamic glorious of the first birth of Jesus, He came to bring Hope, Joy, He came to break the yoke that burdens you.
We have been through chaos and confusion in 2020 but the everlasting councilor and the Prince of Peace is still on the throne. Today we have Hope, we have a Wonderful councilor, He is a warrior He is always victorious. He came fully loaded, He was the very image of God, so we are always victorious, He can fight every battle. He is Everlasting Father, today, tomorrow, next week forever He will be our Father. We will never be fatherless. He is the Prince of Peace the Shalom of our life. That brings wholeness, completeness to us, we must identify with Him, we need the Hope of Christmas.

Text: Luke 1: 26-38
Text: Matthew 1: 18-25

Luke 1: 26-38
26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called[b] the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.”
38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Matthew 1: 18-25
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[d]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[e] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

The people were looking for a Messiah, they had heard the prophetic words about a coming Messiah, David, Joel, Isaiah all told about the coming of a Messiah. The Hope of mankind. The Hope of Good News. God was setting the stage, and He sent His angel to approached both Mary and Joseph. They knew what God was doing and they both agreed. Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” She fell in line with God’s plan. Her will was in agreement with God’s will. And Joseph accepted what the angel said.

What did the Great Hope bring? God from the beginning wanted man to be reunited with Him. The great Hope reconciled us with God. The Good News is that the Hope has come to set us free

Mark 16:15 "Go into all the world, and proclaim the Good News" Go to the nations and bring the Good News. It is time to give God praise.
