Speaker: Pastor Sonya Henry Subject: Living in your divine nature Central Theme: A Warning against corruption Text: 2 Peter 1:4 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. Apostle Peter was the author: 1:1 a servant and an apostle; was impulsive, kindhearted. Courageous and immovable. Many miracles were done through him. The character of Peter A servant of Jesus Christ 2 Peter 1:1 Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours. He was naturally impulsive Matthew 14:28 - 29 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. He was impulsive Matthew 26:75 74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!” John 13:8 8 “No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.” Mark 1: 18 18 At once they left their nets and followed him. Self sacrificing, after Pentecost he became the ‘rock’ Matthew 16: 18 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. John 1: 42 - 43 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter. 43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” 1. He comes to make over. He will not cohabitate. We have to put away Hurt, Fear, Unforgiveness , Jealousy, Anger, Murder, Fornication, Lust, Malice, Pride, Witchcraft, Evil works, works. Gal 5: 19-21 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Col. 3:9-10 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 2. He comes to put away and throw out the anger and unforgiveness. He throws out the old man and be clothes in his righteousness. We are walking in His divine nature. 3. He come to do a spring cleaning. He creates an new heart a clean heart. Therefore the old had has gone and the new has come: He rose on the third day so we can live in our divine nature. Bought with a price. We are walking in our divine nature. The attributes of Jesus. The fruits of the spirit lives in The House now. We are abiding in Divine Nature: His characteristic characteristics and attributes Psalm 51: 7 7 Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. The blood of Jesus cleanses is white as snow. He comes to cleanse the rage, malice, hatred to cleanse our heart of stone to a heart of flesh that can be mounding. The old has gone so the new can come: Long suffering , Kindness, Righteousness, Gentleness, Peace, Goodness, Love, Faith. Galatians 5: 22- 26 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Jesus is in residence because He is a King we are Royalty, as the sons of God we live in: A. Knowledge of the Word Acts 20:32 32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 1 Peter 2: 5 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. B. Meditate in the Word 1 Timothy 4: 15 -16 15 Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. C. Living and speaking the Word Praying in the Spirit. 1 Cor 14 :2 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. We are enlightened : Speaking in wisdom we are living stones; spiritual houses. Walk in the divine nature and God will confirm His Word. |
