Blessed Christmas:

Speaker: Apostle Lucille Baird
Theme: What have you brought this Christ child?
Text: Luke 2: 6-16
6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Continue below:)

The Christmas Day Message

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.

Your heart is His manger. Better to have Him in your heart where He lives than to just visit the place where He was born.

We see from this text that everyone that was involved in the birth of Jesus has to give up something or offer something to facilitate the birth of Jesus, His first coming. What are we prepared to give up or give for His second coming.

1. God gave His only begotten Son
John 3:16 God gave something, His beloved Son so that we can gain everlasting life.
2. Joseph had to give up some stuff. He was betrothed to Mary, in those days that was as good as married but with no intimate relationship. But he had to give up his wife. He went through turmoil, anger, disgrace. He couldn’t touch her until the baby was born. He gave up the love of his life so Jesus could be born. He had to give up his position in the community so the child of God could come forth. He must have been mocked and criticized but he kept on because that was what was needed to facilitate the birth of Jesus.
3. Mary was between 14-15 years old when the angel Gabriel visited her. She had to give up her young body, her childhood because now she was to be the mother of the Messiah the Christ child.
She had to be selective with her diet because she was carrying a holy thing.
She had to give up her reputation, she would have loss her value, she has to give up her friends and relocate. She ran to her aunt Elizabeth for advice.
She had to give up her safety zone and travel on a donkey to an unknown place and give birth in a smelly, dirty animal’s manger and place her precious newborn baby on straw in a animal feeding trough.
4. The wise men had to give up the comfort of their families, they traveled by camel following a strange star to go into a strange land. They could have been robbed because they took some of their wealth out on a journey following a star. They knew a king had been born and they had to take a offering worthy of a king. Gold enough to raise a child, they took the best for the king.
What are you bringing to the king?
5. The Shepherds when to find Jesus, they left their sheep, they could have been stolen but they left them, they dropped everything and went to seek God. And they found Him, if you seek you will find. They sacrificed to seek Jesus, what will we sacrifice to facilitate Jesus coming to Barbados?
Don’t miss your chance to fast and pray and seek God.

6. Even the animals had to give up their space they had to give up their straw so a bed could be made up in the feeding trough.
What are you willing to give up to make room for Jesus in your life?
7. The mothers in Bethlehem had to give up their babies who were slaughtered in the process of Jesus being born.

A. What have you brought to offer the Christ?
B. What sacrifice will you make to enable Jesus to dwell in you to make your heart a manger?
C. What will you give up, what will you leave?
D. Are you willing to count the cost to become a disciple of Jesus?

Give him your whole life, your time, your skills.
