OPERATING UNDER THE EMPOWERMENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD

11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

*When we give our lives to the Lord, the Holy Spirit immediately begins to dwell in us

*There is always a fight between the flesh and the spirit. (Futility, emptiness, purposelessness, frustration or folly)

Romans 8:17-21
17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

For the creation was subjected to frustration, without God the creation is empty, purposeless and futile.

What fills us is our relationship with God walking with God we are spiritual beings having a flashily experience on the earth.

An empty house is a target of vandals, it gives way to corruption. Sin brings futility and emptiness but a child of God is locked in with God.

The battle is in our minds which is subject to emptiness, when a thought comes into your mind you must bring every thought into captivity. Ask the Holy Spirit to take control of your mind, have your mind set on God on things above.

Our personalities are made up of body, soul and spirit. Outside of Jesus we are in a state of emptiness and corruption.

Our DNA from Adam can be changed as we become sons of God, walking in the Spirit.

And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

The devil seeks your mind, he tries to get you on drugs and alcohol to change your mind.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world.

Col: 3: 9-10
9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

2 Peter 1:3
3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

God is interested in ones attitude and spiritual walk not our earthly knowledge but Godly wisdom.

Our natural tendency is to be in the flesh, to break that we have to walk in the spirit, with a renewed mind.

We receive knowledge of our Lord in order to receive grace. We use the grace to walk in the lord

2 Peter 3:18
18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

One of the chief reasons we are under grace is so sin would not have dominion over us and we can walk in the spirit

7 levels of flesh:
The old man, the Greek word ‘Sarx,’ the flesh must be brought under control

1. The soft part is the flesh that covers the body.
1 Corinthians 15:39
39 Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another.

2. The entire body
1 Corinthians 5:3
3 For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this.

3. The entire human race
Isaiah 40:6
A voice says, “Cry out.”
And I said, “What shall I cry?”
“All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.

4. Your family
Romans 9: 7b-8
“It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” 8 In other words, it is not the children by physical descent who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham’s offspring.

5. Human beings physical limitations
2 Corinthians 5: 1-5
For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 3 because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

7. Sinful force with us
Romans 8:12-13 12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.

Walking in the flesh your minds are dark, egotistic and corrupt, your wills are hostile and rebellious. But when we die it’s not we, its not flesh, that is dead now, it’s Kingdom.

Our body is mortal and subject to death
Our body are vehicles of sin.

Romans 6:6 - 7
6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Our bodies can be yielded to God , it is possible that our minds can be controlled by the Holy Spirit


Romans 6: 1-2
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

The flesh can never be satisfied, do not walk in the flesh but walk in the Spirit. Do not become a slave to the flesh.

Walking in the spirit
Romans 8 : 5
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

*The source of the spirit filled walked is found in the new creation.

*There is no born again believer who is in the flesh, he is in the spirit

*We must have our minds set on the spirit

Walk in the Spirit means modeling our lives after Christ. We become one with Christ.
Carnal Christian’s still walk in the flesh.

Be led by the Spirit, walk a walk that demonstrates our position in Christ.
